Ways to Make Real Change

Here are some ways you can donate and/or take action. Please support these organizations in any way you can. It takes armies, villages, and entire communities to make lasting change. Your support is appreciated immensely

The Innocence Project, established in 1992 is a non-profit organization committed to exonerating the wrongly accused, preventing unjust convictions, and promoting equitable systems of justice for all. Guided by scientific principles and an anti-racist approach.

Equal Justice USA is a national organization that aims to revolutionize the justice system by advocating for approaches to violence that interrupt cycles of trauma. The organization operates at the intersection of criminal justice, public health, and racial justice to prioritize healing instead of retribution, address the needs of survivors, promote racial equity, and foster community safety.

In 1999, the NPAP was established as a non-profit organization with the objective of safeguarding the human and civil rights of individuals during their interactions with law enforcement and detention facility personnel. The primary focus of the NPAP is to hold law enforcement accountable for misconduct.

They push for the accountability of law enforcement officers and their employers for breaches of the Constitution and the laws of the United States.

The World Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (WCADP) is an organization that opposes the use of capital punishment. WCADP collaborates with over 100 other organizations nationwide to advocate for the abolition of the death penalty. The organization adopts a state-specific strategy by lobbying state officials, initiating petitions, and educating individuals about the flaws of the death penalty. They offer guidance in drafting letters to state politicians, joining local groups, and educating others about the issue.

Witness to Innocence is an organization that is run by and for individuals who have been exonerated from death row. The organization's objective is to equip these survivors with the skills to become the strongest and most influential voices in the campaign to abolish the death penalty in the United States. WTI accomplishes this by providing opportunities for its members to engage in public speaking, testify before state legislatures, and participate in media interviews to raise awareness about the fact that innocent individuals are sentenced to death.

In August 2015, Campaign Zero was introduced as a research-based platform to shift the focus of public safety beyond policing. From the beginning, Campaign Zero has initiated various research and advocacy projects:

1. Public Safety Beyond Policing

2. Shrink the Reliance and Power of the Police

3. End Mass Incarceration

4. Fundamental Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency

5. Direct Support & Advocacy

The goal of The Sentencing Project is to promote justice with regard to race, ethnicity, gender, and economic status by advocating for responses to criminal activity that that minimizes imprisonment and criminalization of youth and adults.

Large-scale incarceration is not an effective means of achieving public safety. It has lead to prison overcrowding as well as a financial burden on taxpayers to adapt for an ever-expanding penal system.

Who is Defund The Police and what is their mission?

Their objective is to shift resources away from institutions that contribute to harm, control, and imprisonment of our communities, and redirect those resources towards strategies focused on violence prevention, intervention, housing, healthcare, income support, employment, and other community-centered safety approaches.

By divesting from these harmful institutions and investing in community-based initiatives, they aim to create safer environments for everyone.

Defund The Police is actively constructing a sense of safety and cultivating movements that will pave the way for a sustainable future. The demand to defund the police remains resolute, as they strive to prioritize community needs and aspirations.

Death Penalty Action is dedicated to ending executions and eliminating the death penalty by engaging in advocacy, education, and impactful initiatives.

Some of their services include:

1. Strategizing/executing public education initiatives prior to executions and legislative events.

2. Creating/executing a comprehensive communications strategy to emphasize key messages.

3. Supplying signs, banners, and other visual aids for use in public protests.

4. Collaborating with local staff and volunteers to foster the growth of organizations and coalitions.

5. Mobilizing national movement organizations by coordinating speakers and presenters.

6. Providing on-the-ground logistical and tactical support for events, direct actions, and other public engagements.

7. Engaging in fundraising efforts to secure necessary resources.
